When Google sends out it’s search spider (called GOOGLEBOT by the way) it is on the look out for top quality sites with a lot of content and a lot of words on the pages as well.

Put yourself in the shoes of GOOGLEBOT:

What would you prefer?

1. A site with 110 pages with 370 words on each page

2. A site with 15 pages and 48 words on each page

Google will love the first site as it EVALUATES this site as having more to offer the reader. Rock solid content. It can’t be simple than that.

Be honest, how many pages does your site have?

Another thing, are they linked from your homepage as well? Google loves natural linking. You’ve got to make hyperlinks as easy to find as you can.

So the final words?

Increase your content + your text + your links!

Let’s get right to it. Decide what keywords/keyword phrases you want to target. By getting this right you also attract free targeted traffic. You want to really take your time with this and be realistic in your decisions. When starting out I suggest you target several 3 word phrases, they are much easier to start with. You want to target phrases that are very specific to your site or a part of your site. I am going to assume most of you have learned to start your online business in a much defined niche market. So let’s look at an example.

Let’s assume your site is a specialty gift store, specializing in only dog supplies. You would want to have each page targeting a specific accessory. I’ll explain why. You want an entire page dedicated specifically for a much targeted accessory so you can build that page to specifically target your keyword phrases. Let’s use “dog tags” as our defined target product.

To quickly summarize, we have broken our targeted keyword/keyword phrase down from: Pets—> Pets Supplies—>Specialty Pet Supplies—> Dog Supplies to finally a specific pet product, being “dog tags”. Just starting out you haven’t a snowballs hope in he%$ of ranking well for “pet supplies”, or “pet accessories”, or even “dog supplies”. Your focus has to be on driving targeted traffic to your site by way of a very narrow targeted product from your site. Once free targeted traffic arrives at your site they will soon see everything you have to offer, but you have to get them there first!

Now let’s break it down one step further. Let’s say the specialty “dog tags” you are marketing come engraved with the dogs name. You have now defined a much targeted phrase and path for much targeted traffic. Your first defined keyword phrase could be “engraved dog tags” or “engraved name tags” or “dog tags engraved”, all of which have a decent search volume through Google. You can find Googles Keyword Tool here, to research your own phrases.

Alright, you have targeted some much defined keyword phrases; you have researched them through Googles Keyword Tool, now what? Now you have to get those phrases into your web page selling specialty dog tags. Target the phrase that has the largest volume of traffic first, the next highest volume second, and so on. That free targeted traffic will soon follow.

Now let’s talk density. What is density? Density is the how populated your web page is with certain words and phrases. You want your phrases to have good density. In our example “engraved dog tags” has the largest volume, you want that phrase in your page title, in the first paragraph, a couple of time through the body of your page, and lastly, in the last sentence of your page if possible. Don’t over do it! I can’t stress this enough. I’ve seen some web pages that have their targeted keyword phrase in every second sentence.

I suggest you spend some time now defining a special aspect of your site, develop some keyword phrases, research them, and rewrite you web page to do some targeting. Please leave any and all comments pertaining to your progress on your generation of free targeted traffic. Also feel free to ask any questions and I will answer as soon as I can.

1. Offer as much additional value on your website as possible without shooting yourself in the foot. For affiliates and partners you can place links to their sites and ask them to reciprocate the favor. Another great way to benefit both of you is to advertise their products and ask them to do the same. This provides free traffic and advertising for both of you. Obviously you don’t want to advertise any product or service that you are in competition with.

2. You can allow customers to ‘opt in’ and provide them with a 10% discount on their first order, and allow them to be the first to see any new promotions you are offering. This also allows you to stay in constant contact with your customers and potential customers. Coupons are another very effective way of keeping your ‘opt in’ list returning to your site.

3. Create a schedule to update the pages on your website on a regular basis. In time, stagnant websites are dropped by some of the search engines. I would suggest you put a date counter on the page to show when it was last updated. This also tells all your visitors very quickly how attentive and diligent you are in bringing them the latest information.

4. Make it simple for a visitor to become a customer by adding a link to your primary page with a script ‘Book Mark or Add this site to your Favorites’. Most internet users are repeatedly referencing their favorite’s folder, I know I do.

5. Like item 4, make it simple for your visitors to attract potential customers for you by adding a link ‘Recommend this site to a Friend’ so that the visitor can email your website link, with a prewritten title, “Thought you might be interested in this”, that with the click of a button a visitor in recommending your site to.

6. Create an ‘Our Policies’ page that clearly defines your philosophy and principles in dealing with your customers. Also post your privacy policy as well so that clients know they are secure when they visit your site. This is a great opportunity to reveal to your potential customers who and what your principles and morals are all about.

7. Brand your website. This will create a presence and feel for your customers and visitors that they are at your site. Use consistent colors, page design, logos and slogans on every page and always provide a ‘Contact Us’ link and ‘Home’ link on each page. Spend some time to create a “favicon” to forever identify and brand your site. I know from my own surfing experiences that there have been sites I was visiting with no way to return to their home page without clicking the back button. Very annoying. You need your sites pages to flow.

8. Create a FAQ page which addresses most of the doubts, questions, and clarifications about your product or your company that are likely to be asked. Sit down and picture yourself arriving at your site for the very first time. Get a pen and paper and write down what you would like to know as a potential purchaser from this site. This will help to resolve most of the customers doubts in their first visit to your site.

9. Never spam a client, who has opted for newsletters, with unsolicited emails! Also if they decide they want to ‘opt out’ of the mailings, always be sure you honor their request and take them off the mailing list. They may still come back if they like your products. But they will certainly not come back if you continue to flood their email box with mails they no longer wish to receive.

10. Make sure each page on your website has the appropriate title and keywords so that your customer can find their way back to your site if they lose the bookmark. Remember your page title appears in the web browser. Anyone like me who has multiple tabs and pages open at the same time, the title allows for a quick return.

11. I saved this for last because it is my largest pet peeve, Grammar! When I view a website with numerous spelling and obvious grammatical errors, I leave immediately. I’m sure that I am in the majority of people who see a website with these errors; our immediate reaction is, if someone cares that little about their sites presentation, they certainly won’t care about me as a customer. Use any spell check application you wish, but use one for everything you write.

That’s my 11 ways to free repeat website traffic. Copy and post this beside your computer for the next time you update your web pages. They are the basics of great websites and will certainly pave a path to free repeat website traffic.

If you try saturating your keywords in every other sentence on every line, chances are your site will be rejected as an artificial site or spam site. That is the last thing you want to start doing, it will only deteriorate the legitimacy of your website. Your website is a reflection of your integrity and personality.

Alright let’s do the math. That’s right, I know most of you right now are saying to yourself, “I remember in high school saying, when am I ever going to use this stuff”! You have to love the irony! Keyword density is expressed as a percentage of the total word content on a given web page.

Let’s say you have 100 words on one of your web pages (this does not include HMTL code used for writing the web page), and you use a certain keyword for five times in the content. The keyword density on that page is got by simply dividing the total number of keywords, by the total number of words that appear on your web page. So here it is 5 divided by 100 = .05. Because keyword density is a percentage of the total word count on the page, multiply the above by 100, that is 0.05 x 100 = 5%

The accepted standard for a keyword density is between 3% and 5%, to get recognized by the search engines and you should never exceed it. I can see you all getting the calculators out and I can almost hear all the keys being hit!

Remember, that this rule applies to every page on your site. It also applies to not just to one keyword but also a set of keywords that relates to a different product or service. The keyword density should always be between 3% and 5%.

Simple steps to check the density:

• Copy and paste the content from an individual web page into a word-processing software program like Word or Word Perfect.
• Go to the ‘Edit’ menu and click ‘Select All’. Now go to the ‘Tools’ menu and select ‘Word Count’. Write down the total number of words in the page.
• Now select the ‘Find’ function on the ‘Edit’ menu. Go to the ‘Replace’ tab and type in the keyword you want to find. ‘Replace’ that word with the same word, so you don’t change the text.
• When you complete the replace function, the system will provide a count of the words you replaced. That gives the number of times you have used the keyword in that page.
• Using the total word count for the page and the total number of keywords you can now calculate the keyword density.

Being search engine friendly is only going to enhance your website’s ability to rank higher and ultimately generate more free traffic from all the search engines.

While researching the forums you have chosen, scroll down to the bottom of their home page to view their “stats”. The stats will define data such as membership quantity, how many members are online, how many threads, and total post’s etc. You want to target the larger forums for obvious reasons, those are the one that will give you the most free traffic. From your research select 3 or 4 forums and sign up. Log everything you do as you sign up, either on paper, a text file, Excel, whatever, just keep track of what you’re doing. You want records that are readily available of your sign-up details.

Now that you have now joined several forums you want to start visiting them on a regular basis, initially every day. Typically there will be a category for new members to introduce themselves, start there. Introduce yourself and ask members to view and critique your site. By doing this you are achieving three initial goals, getting some free traffic, possibly some constructive criticism and ideas to improve your site, and lastly, creating a presence in the membership. After just a few days you should be starting to receive visits to your site from an audience of like people. After you get comfortable in the world of forums start a thread that is a bit controversial, a topic that you know will have two very distinctive opinions to your topic. In other words, if you are posting and starting new threads in a forum targeted at the same market you’re in, and you’re creating some controversy here and there, these visitors are now free targeted traffic.

After a week or two of posting regularly to your chosen 3 to 4 forums in your target market, you will have developed a “presence” within the forums. Now is the time you want to offer a “freebie” at your site to bring more traffic. Search for a free download in your target market that is highly defined to a very specific part of your market. The idea is to offer free very detailed information on an aspect of your market. The detail adds value to your visitors.

OK, an example. You have a dog grooming site, offering products and information about everything to do with dog grooming. Offer your visitors a download detailing the best way to bath a dog. Ideal water temperatures, how often a particular breed should be bathed based on coat length and skin sensitivity. The best types of shampoos and/or conditioners to be used based on coat type and length. You can see where I’m going with this, offer highly detailed information to your visitors that will be very valuable to every one of them. Any visitor engaging in a dog grooming site is there for a very specific reason…they have a dog, and they are very interested in how best to groom him or her. Along with your products, you are offering free information in how best to apply that product.

Now you have something new to mention/offer in your forum postings. You also have some new controversy to create based on your new free download! Start a new thread “Always Use A Conditioner For Every Bath”. I think you can see the interest and emotional response something like that will create. Try to respond to each post you receive from your controversial thread to keep the thread alive. There is no doubt you will become as engaged with the topic as your poster’s, but never forget the goal…each time you post, reply, or start a thread the link to your site is right there for all to click on and provide you lots of free traffic.

The internet has proven to be an extremely reliable source for finding what once was deemed to be a very unsearchable product. The internet has made the world a much smaller place; one can advertise a product or service from the depths of Morocco and still find a buyer living in Manhattan.

It is a known fact that generating traffic is no easy task. You have to contend with a great number of sites to generate substantial traffic flow. But when done successfully, this will open up a torrential flood of possibilities. One of the benefits is monetizing your traffic flow.

So, the ground root is, the more traffic you generate, the more likely you are going to be in generating a consistent sustainable profit. Basically, traffic equals profit. Advertising is the name of the game; with a good targeted advertising campaign, you can use your traffic flow to your advantage. You can see here what I use daily, to drive traffic to my sites

When you generate substantial traffic, your world of profitable possibilities are going to open tenfold. This is a whole separate topic that I will save for another post. Just take a look at some popular sites and scrutinize the amount of sales possibilities on that website. One of the most popular, and profitable, ways to add income to your site is to invite advertisers to place ads.

The number one way by far to generate traffic to a new site is “pay-per-click”advertising. Although Google is in the number one position for this type of advertising, there are many many more that are somewhat more cost effective, which is a large consideration when starting an E-Commerce business.

Affiliate Programs

Another great method of monetizing your traffic are through affiliate programs. You can provide a link to other tried and tested like or similar sites and online businesses and monetize your traffic by receiving a percentage of sales generated by the traffic you are sending to their site.

The basic idea is, the traffic generated from your site will go to another site that can offer a product that you do not carry. Many programs can keep track and record thes transactions that was made possible because of site linkage.

When there is a purchase from a customer that came from your site, you get a percentage of that sale. Affiliate programs would give you the benefit of monetizing your traffic without the actual need of carrying or promoting a certain product. This is just one of the many benefits of improved traffic.

There are so many ways and methods to monetize your traffic. The first order of business after you have gone through all the time and effort to produce a site for profit, is traffic. This is where the bulk of your energy and planning should be focused. My next post will be focused on the ways you can get free website traffic. Stay focused on the fact that traffic equals profit.
